Led by Mellow Racoon, an independent alternative rock label based in the Black Country, activities will include an instruments workshop, talks, and music by multiple bands.

“Our show is aimed more at children but should prove equally entertaining for adults,” said Kieran Bott, a history lecturer and researcher who specialises in grassroots musical and political movements.

“There will be an opportunity to try out different instruments and the event will be punctuated by short talks on relevant subjects suited for a general audience. There will of course be music that will be completely authentic in tone and energy – but without any strong language and controversial or more mature themes.

“We’re even planning some punk renditions of children’s songs and nursery rhymes to ensure everyone feels at home!”

Those attending are welcome to come and go as they wish during the afternoon, but booking is recommended.

“Holding a loud music event in a library may seem incongruous but we’re a community hub that exists to bring people together through education and inclusivity,” said Sharon Whitehouse, manager at Dudley Library.

“It’s great to have ‘Punk in Public’ on our summer holiday programme and if it goes well, we might try it out in other libraries.”

Operating under the Better brand, GLL is a not-for-profit social enterprise that runs thirteen Dudley libraries on behalf of the council.
