A taste of togetherness: Wolverhampton’s Curry Night Fundraiser unites community for young people facing homelessness

The event, held at Nēkarē restaurant on the 5th and 6th of August, saw local supporters enjoy a specially prepared three-course set menu, with proceeds from ticket sales, a raffle and generous donations from attendees and local businesses all supporting P3’s programmes for young people.

More than just a night of delicious food, the event created a sense of solidarity and hope for young people who need a fresh start. Roland Elcock House provides supported accommodation for 16 to 25-year-olds in Wolverhampton who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The service offers young people a safe, stable place to live, learn independent living skills and access 24-hour support, including advice and referrals for housing, education, employment, mental health, and substance misuse services.

All funds raised from the Curry Night will go directly towards taking these young people on a trip to the seaside – something that for most has often been inaccessible. Any additional donations will go towards new home starter kits and essentials for the young residents moving into permanent housing, helping to transform an empty space into a true home, giving them the best chance to build a brighter future.

Candice Gordon, Service Manager for P3 Charity’s Roland Elcock House, said: "We're delighted to bring people together for great food and an even greater cause. Every ticket sold and every pound raised helps us offer young people the opportunities, resources, and encouragement they need to thrive."

Shihab Rahman, Director of Nēkarē Restaurant, added: "We’re so happy to host P3’s fundraiser at Nēkarē as we’ve always been about connecting with the local community. We were honoured to have the opportunity of participating in the great work that P3 do and that the funds are going to such a good cause! It was lovely hosting such a great bunch of people.”

P3 Charity is now encouraging other local people and businesses to get involved and make a difference by hosting their own fundraising events — from bake sales and community meals to sponsored challenges and quizzes.

Lydia McHugh, Community Engagement Co-ordinator for P3 Charity, said: “Community-led events like this show how much can be achieved when people come together. It doesn’t take much to make a huge impact, and we’d love to see more people bring their ideas to life and support young people in their local community.”
