WI garden born from friendship
From bare earth to a profusion of flowers - Great Haywood WI's creation of a garden inspired by Monet's palette has won the Staffordshire Federation of WI's Talent Competition.
Plants from WI members' gardens along with design, planting and caring for the patch are all down to the efforts of this talented group.
The judges, from Heath House Farm's Nursery, congratulated Great Haywood WI's uplifting display. They were especially impressed by the fact that it was a collective collaboration with friendship at its heart.
They added that the benefits to mental and physical well being of gardening and the enjoyment of a garden cannot be underestimated.
Plants include perennials as well as annuals and will be a sustainable garden giving pleasure to many for years to come.

The garden is on the Main Road, Great Haywood and can be enjoyed by the whole community and visitors to the village.
The competition to create a garden was organised by Staffordshire Federation of Women's Institutes Leisure & Pleasure Committee. Mary Cooke, Chair, said: "The standard of entries was very high which made the judges' task difficult. I am always in awe of the talent that I see across all of our competitions, from creative writing to sport and gardening."
