The donation comes from the SPARk a Conversation campaign launched with Colin Jackson, which encourages shoppers to “open up and check in on each other’s wellbeing”. The campaign leverages summer BBQs as a natural setting for conversation.

YESS, based in Uttoxeter and serving the Midlands, offers counselling and wellbeing support for all ages. Its counsellors and practitioners are members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. “A smile, checking in, showing compassion – that’s sometimes all it takes to make a real difference,” said a YESS spokesperson.

Julian Taylor-Green, SPAR Western Downs owner embraced that ethos. “We discovered that many customers prefer talking while they’re tongs‑in‑hand,” referencing research that 84 % of men prefer to BBQ rather than talk feelings. “Now we’re thrilled to present this cheque to YESS, a charity helping people across our region.”
