Organised by the activities team at Meadow Rose care home in Longridge, part of Macc Care Group, the private tour of St Andrew’s stadium gave three residents and two family members the opportunity to step out onto the pitch, visit the players’ dressing room and even hold the 2011 League Cup – one of the greatest achievements in the club’s long-standing history, where they beat Arsenal 2-1 at Wembley.

One of the lucky folk to join the day out was Brenda Davis. Her husband and Meadow Rose resident Brian Davis, aged 79, has been a devoted Blues fan since the age of seven. Unfortunately he couldn’t attend the tour himself, so wife, Brenda, went in his place. She made sure Brian could still share in the excitement by bringing back plenty of memorabilia from the gift shop.

Meadow Rose resident Grayham Chalk, aged 82, also joined the tour. Another life long Blues fan from a young age Grayham was accompanied to the stadium by his wife and they both had a lovely day making memories as well as reminiscing on ones from years gone by.

Sue Lynch, a member of the activities team at Meadow Rose, said: “The day was very much enjoyed by the residents, their dreams of walking onto the pitch were fulfilled – it was fantastic.”

“Residents wore huge smiles as they explored their hometown ground, and draped Birmingham City scarves around their necks – and mobility aids.”

Bhav Amlani, Director of the Macc Care Group, which operates 15 luxury care homes across the Midlands, added: "Activities such as going to visit Birmingham City Football Club – of whom many residents have been lifelong fans – are all about creating meaningful moments. These personalised experiences go a long way in making our residents feel valued and connected to the world around them. We’re delighted to have been able to allow them to reminisce over some of their favourite memories the football club has given them over the years. The day was one we know will stay with them and their families for a long time to come.”

Events like these form part of a wider programme of meaningful activities designed to support wellbeing, connection and happiness for every resident, and demonstrate Macc Care’s ongoing commitment to providing personalised, enriching care.

Meadow Rose offers specialist dementia, residential and respite care as well as a nursing service that is always available to meet the needs of its residents.
