Dom, 23, took on the challenge earlier this year to honour the memory of his father, Simon Loveland, who received end of life care at St Giles Hospice. The two shared a lifelong love of hiking, making the climb up Africa’s highest peak a heartfelt and symbolic journey for Dominic.

Dominic, a Psychology graduate, said: “This trek was so much more than just a physical challenge. It was a way for me to honour my dad’s memory and give back to the hospice that supported him, and us, through his final days.”

The gruelling 8-day climb was both emotionally and physically demanding, but Dom’s determination never stopped. With every step, he carried his father’s memory and the support of his community, who rallied behind his fundraising efforts to help St Giles continue providing vital care to local people, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness.

Chloe Hope, Head of Fundraising at St Giles Hospice, said: “We’re incredibly thankful to Dominic for his amazing achievement and the dedication he’s shown in raising vital funds for St Giles. The money he’s raised will go directly towards helping more local people, just like his dad, who are living with a terminal illness. We’re so proud of him, and so grateful for his support.

“For anyone feeling inspired, we have lots of treks and challenges available, with many upcoming dates - such as Snowdon by Night and the Trek to Ancient Petra. There’s something for everyone who wants to make a difference, whilst fulfilling their appetite for adventure!”
