Local karate champion on top of the world

A young karate athlete from Hednesford, Zack Bowen. Got selected by the England Karate Squad to represent England at the World Karate Championships in Malmö, Sweden. Held at the Malmö Arena.

Zack beat people from all over the world to become World Champion in the kata discipline. Zack is already British, Scottish and now World Champion. 

Zack Bowen, 10 from Hednesford trains at Ryu Shotokan Karate that practice at Staffordshire University Academy. Zack has been training there for just over two years.

His coach Sensei Mike Carr, had this to say about achievements. Zack is an exceptional talent and this is the first opportunity he has had to win such a prestigious tournament. He didn’t let the occasion or enormity of the competition get to him and executed the plan perfectly. We were training tirelessly for this and he got his hands on his first world title and I couldn’t be prouder.

Zack is the first World Champion the team have had but they have also proud multiple English, British, International and Commonwealth Champions. Up until recently the only medal that had eluded the club were European and World Champions. 

Next stop for Zack is the GB Open in Birmingham then after the team head to Latvia for the European Championships in October.
