Oasis? Nah... the real 'kings are from Wolverhampton
As a certain Manchester band continues its mission to recreate past glories, for those of a West Midlands bias the reunion of the year takes place this Saturday in Wolverhampton.
Thirty-four years since they last took to the stage, iconic band Sandkings look to wrap up some unfinished business with a sold out hometown show at Wolverhampton Arts Centre.
Having been part of the late 80s / early 90s 'indie' explosion, Sandkings were contemporaries of other local bands at the time such as The Wonder Stuff, PWEI and The Mighty Lemon Drops. After signing to London Records, they released several highly acclaimed singles as well as a debut album entitled 'Welcome To England' before splitting in 1992.
Now, original members Glenn Dodd, David Brown and Terry Kirkbride - who has actually played drums for one Mr. Noel Gallagher's solo projects - are back with a new frontman in the form of Vinnie Cocker for what many have long considered a show that was never going to happen.

Despite hailing from Sheffield, Cocker isn't exactly a stranger to the band after working with them on various shows back in the day - including The Wonder Stuff's 1989 'Hup!' tour, which featured Sandkings in support.
A resurgence of interest in the band started to gather pace a few years ago, leading to three Anthologies being released by Wolverhampton's own Revolver Records, and there are rumours that new material may yet happen. For now, though, fans will get the chance to hear much loved songs live again with visitors to the show known to be travelling from all across the UK.
Support on the night comes from Raglan Revival DJs, who will be spinning tunes into the early hours and reviving even more memories of a time when the city was considered one of the best places in the country for a night out.
