The singles and doubles matches were played at Amasal Sports and Social Club on separate days - and both competitions were hotly contested.

All players played until 21 chalks/points were reached and they were grateful for the refreshments to keep them going.

Lynn Hubbard of Caverswall & Cookshill WI and Jackie Perry of Whittington WI were the finalists in the singles, with Jackie winning.

Mary Cooke, Chair of the Leisure & Pleasure Committee that organised the competition, said: "I am grateful to Amasal for the use of their excellent Green and to Paul Roberts who measured and was the Marker." She added: "The competitions were conducted in a friendly and amicable environment, and over lunch news was exchanged and friendships extended."
