Vicky Mills, Business Manager at Yew Tree Nursing Home Ltd, said: “For the past 12 months, Yew Tree Nursing Home Ltd has been collaborating with Music Bugs Halesowen to host weekly interactive music sessions within the home. What began as a one-off trial session has blossomed into a regular highlight for both residents and visiting children."

The idea grew out of a conversation between the nursing home’s team and the local Music Bugs leader – who, in a happy twist of fate, is the sister of one of the care home’s staff members. Their shared belief in the power of music to connect and uplift led to a trial session. The response was immediate and deeply moving.

They offer therapeutic benefits for the elderly, opportunities for children to socialize and learn, and moments of genuine connection that are rare and beautiful. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Testimonials on both the Music Bugs Facebook page and the nursing home’s own social media capture the smiles, songs, and unforgettable moments shared during the sessions. The home is now hoping this story can inspire other care homes and community groups to think creatively about intergenerational connection and the role of music in well being.
