Wolverhampton Youth Chess Club make all the right moves in Parliament
Young chess enthusiasts from The Way Youth Zone in Wolverhampton made their mark in Westminster this week, attending a special chess club session in the Houses of Parliament as guests of Warinder Juss MP, Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton West and proud Onside Youth Zone Champion.
The visit saw the Youth Zone’s chess club take on Members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for chess in a spirited series of matches. The young players rose to the occasion, securing three impressive victories against their opponents in the heart of British democracy.

Katie Rigby, Youth Service Manager at the Way Youth Zone, said: “We're so proud of our Youth Zone chess club for stepping up to the challenge and taking on the Houses of Parliament Chess Club – and what an achievement to win three games against such formidable opponents!
“This was an incredible experience for our young people that was about more than just chess; it was about building confidence, trying something new and representing the Youth Zone with pride. This opportunity wouldn't have been possible without our amazing Onside Network Champion, Warinder Juss MP, whose passion and dedication for young people made this experience possible. Our young people came away inspired, more skilled and with memories they will never forget!”

Warinder Juss MP, who actively champions youth activity and engagement, said: “It was an honour to welcome these talented young people to Parliament. Their enthusiasm and sportsmanship was inspiring. This is exactly the kind of opportunity that shows how far young people can go when given the right support and encouragement.”
The visit highlighted the power of youth work in shaping confident and capable young leaders. The Way Youth Zone continues to provide a safe, supportive space for young people in Wolverhampton to explore their interests, develop new skills, and connect with their community.
