whg launches new Building Safety Directorate to strengthen resident safety and regulatory compliance
Leading Midlands landlord whg has launched a new Building Safety Directorate, bringing together all building safety functions into one centralised, specialist team.
The move is part of whg’s strategic response to the Building Safety Act, which sets new standards for accountability, transparency, and resident assurance across the housing sector.
With 118 colleagues, the new directorate becomes the third-largest team within the organisation and reflects whg’s commitment to delivering safe, high-quality homes for its 40,000+ customers.
The restructure consolidates all safety-related disciplines – including gas, electrical, fire, water hygiene, asbestos management, and lift maintenance – under a single, streamlined structure. It introduces named individuals responsible for key areas of compliance and reflects the Act’s emphasis on clear accountability.

Rob Gilham, Corporate Director of Strategy, Assets and Transformation at whg, said: “By creating a clear structure with specialist leadership and named accountability, we are not only meeting the requirements of the Building Safety Act, we’re exceeding them, and fostering a culture of safety and respect for our customers. Our customers deserve to feel safe in their homes, and we are proud to lead the way in setting new standards for building safety and assurance.”
The new structure improves operational effectiveness, allows real-time visibility of performance, and enables quicker resolution of safety issues, while ensuring whg remains fully compliant with all current and future regulations.
