Local MP praises George Salter Academy in recent visit
Students at George Salter Academy have spoken to local MP Sarah Coombes about their school experiences, the MP’s own time in school and their thoughts on key local issues.
The academy, part of Ormiston Academies Trust, welcomed Satah Coombes MP to visit as part of its wider curriculum on politics, democracy and citizenship.
As part of her visit, the West Bromwich politician received a tour of the school and took part in a mock interview with students, with topics varying from her own school experiences, her motivation for becoming an MP and even her favourite school dinner.
Key highlights from the tour also included visiting different classrooms to see learning in action and speaking to students and staff about the school’s vision and values.

Inspired by their MP’s visit, students are now returning to their classrooms with a real-life understanding of politics in their local area and a renewed passion for the impact they can have as young individuals.
Speaking on the visit, Sarah Coombes MP, said: “It was lovely to visit George Salter Academy and to speak to students and staff about their amazing vision for education! Our local schools are so important, and it is great to see how George Salter Academy is encouraging students to think about their role as responsible young citizens, and the impact they can have in their local communities.”
Adrian Price, Principal at George Salter Academy, said: “We were so pleased to welcome Ms Coombes to our academy to see first-hand all the learning our students have been undertaking. At GSA, we are committed to creating real-life opportunities for students to learn about the world around them and explore their roles as important members of society. We are really proud of how confidently and passionately our students spoke to their local MP and it was clear they really enjoyed learning all about her work, her experience and her time in Parliament. We look forward to welcoming her back soon!”
