Staffs WI gets crafty - with cream tea!
What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon - listening to an expert on crafting and enjoying a cream tea! This is what almost 100 ladies were treated to when the Staffordshire Federation of Women's Institutes put on an event for their members with Janet Markwell of The Corner Patch, Eccleshall at Checkley Community Centre.
Janet gave a synopsis of her career which started as a long-range weather forecaster. She now runs The Corner Patch, fabric and haberdashery shop in Eccleshall where she also runs workshops. Events in her early life affected the decisions she made in later years and Janet talked about issues that are very much on the Women's Institutes agenda - climate change and mental health as well as experiences of being a woman in a man's world..
Her passion for crafting shone through her talk and she inspired the audience with ideas and techniques to try.

The afternoon was topped off with a delicious Cream Tea, served by members of the Craft, Art & Design Committee and there was an opportunity to buy craft items from the stalls.
Janet Moorby, Chair of Crafts, Art & Design which organised the event, said: "It was lovely to be able to share the afternoon with so many WI members from across Staffordshire. Craft is clearly an interest that many ladies enjoy and I would urge anyone who wants to learn new skills to look on the Staffordshire Federation of Women's Institutes website to see what we have to offer members."
