Halesowen employee celebrates 50 year career milestone

A loyal employee at Mersona Ltd has celebrated a remarkable 50 years of continuous service.

Winston Benjamin, 68, who works as a glazing technician in the spectacle glazing department, joined Mersona in 1975 and has remained with the company throughout his entire professional career. Mersona is part of Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care Group, and is the company's manufacturing and distribution business based in Halesowen.

The milestone was marked with a special presentation in front of Winston's colleagues, where he reflected on his five decades with the business. He also received an engraved watch from the company to commemorate his achievement.

Speaking at the presentation, Winston said: "Today, I stand here feeling incredibly grateful and humbled that I have been here for 50 years. It is hard to believe it's been that long.

"Over the years, I have seen changes in technology and leadership. I have watched the workplace evolve, witnessed generations come and go, and had the privilege of working alongside some truly remarkable people."

Scrivens chairman Nicholas Georgevic praised Winston's exceptional contribution to the business: "To reach 50 years' service is an incredible achievement. Winston is, and has always been, a highly valued member of the Scrivens' family of employees who has personally contributed so much to our success. We have been truly fortunate that Winston has chosen to spend his entire professional career with us and we look forward to continuing to benefit from his enduring wisdom and professionalism until he takes a very richly deserved retirement later this year."

Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care is a family-run business which was established over 85 years ago in 1938. As well as Merson in Halesowen, it has 166 high-street stores in towns and cities across England and Wales, with over 1,000 employees.
