Ladies group enjoy an 'inspirational story'
At the June meeting, Chairman Ann Rogers welcomed 29 members of Kingswinford Ladies Luncheon Club to The Lodge for a three-course meal and to hear about the wonderful charity called Mary's Meals.
The speaker Hannah Moore was truly inspirational telling the story of how Mary’s Meals began in 2002 when Magnus MacFarlane Barrow visited Malawi in South Eastern Africa during a famine and met a mother dying from AIDS leaving her children unable to feed themselves and with no hope of an education. This ignited the mission which began by feeding just 200 children, to the present day, when more than 2 million children across the world are fed every school day. The maize is mostly locally sourced, community owned and run by volunteers. Each meal costs just 10p and £19.15 feeds a child for a whole year.
The charity is named after Mary the mother of Jesus and the hope for the future is based on the belief that “When you educate a girl you educate a nation”. Lots of questions followed and members left full of admiration for the wonderful work of Mary’s Meals.

Meetings are held on the second Friday each month (except in August) at The Lodge 12pm for 12.30pm. The next luncheon is on the 11 July when Emma Pursehouse askes the question “The Black Country – is that somewhere near Leeds?” and in September Ray Sturdy returns once again “Remembering the Swinging Sixties”. Visitors are most welcome and can attend 3 times before deciding to join.
