Housebuilder makes donation to war memorial as part of its support for the armed forces and VE Day
Taylor Wimpey North Midlands recently made a donation to the Uttoxeter branch of the Royal British Legion as part of its support of the armed forces and its commitment to the yearly VE Day community commemorations.
In coordination with the important 80th anniversary that the country has recently celebrated, the housebuilder worked with Royal British Legion Uttoxeter to ensure a donation of £250 was made to the group.
This year, The Uttoxeter War Memorial played a key role in the town’s 80th anniversary commemorations, with lamp lighting, a parade and act of remembrance taking place around the war memorial across a three day period.

To conclude the commemorations, Royal British Legion Uttoxeter organised a VE Day party at the White Hart Hotel Courtyard, which the entire Uttoxeter community were encouraged to attend. Prizes were handed out to children from local schools who took part in the VE Day themed colouring competition and children and adults who dressed up in 1940s style clothing.

Some of the money donated by Taylor Wimpey North Midlands paid for a VE Day 80 themed celebration cake, which was enthusiastically received by attendees.
Colonel (Rtd) Tim Marsden, Treasurer at Royal British Legion Uttoxeter, said: “We were delighted to be contacted by Taylor Wimpey North Midlands about them helping us with our VE Day 80 celebrations. After careful consideration, we jointly agreed that a donation to our community celebrations, which included veterans from the armed forces, and to our poppy appeal, which supports veterans and their dependents in their hour of need, would be the best thing for the Uttoxeter community as a whole. We are grateful for their support.”
Helen Chard, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey North Midlands, said: “It was important to us to support the Uttoxeter community and to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day in the best way possible. We are extremely thankful to Tim and the Royal British Legion Uttoxeter team for allowing us to contribute to the upkeep of the Uttoxeter Memorial.
“We hope it will continue to be viewed and appreciated by both Uttoxeter residents and visitors to the town for generations to come.”
