The single storey, brick-built building had served as a social and recreation centre for older people in the area since 1958, but was closed last year due to escalating refurbishment costs, despite a campaign to save the club.

The 895 sq ft property, which as well as the main hall includes a kitchen, toilets and parking, will feature among over 170 other properties and plots of land in the next live streamed auction to be held by SDL Property Auctions, part of Eddisons, on 26 June.

Andrew Parker, auctioneer and partner at SDL Property Auctions, said: “The former club is well located in an area with a strong sense of local community. Although it’s in need of refurbishment, it has potential for continued commercial use, such as a community café, yoga studio, co-working hub or childcare venue. Alternatively, it could be developed into a residential dwelling, subject to planning consent.”

He added: “Upper Gornal is described by locals as having a village feel and it has much-loved green spaces such as Himley Park and Baggeridge Country Park nearby. It also has easy access to Merry Hill shopping centre as well as good transport links to Dudley, Sedgley, Wolverhampton and Birmingham.”
