From shame to strength: West Midlands man’s life-changing surgery to air on TV
A Birmingham man has shared his deeply personal story on national television after undergoing a life-changing circumcision at Victoria House Clinic, a private medical aesthetics and minor surgery clinic based in Sutton Coldfield.
Featured on the new ITVX documentary series The Price of Perfection with Olivia Attwood, Ian bravely opened up about a lifelong condition that had affected not only his physical comfort but also his confidence and intimate relationships.
Ian, who has lived with excess foreskin since childhood, experienced severe discomfort and difficulty retracting the foreskin due to its length and narrowing at the tip. Over time, this led to emotional distress, relationship difficulties, and even ridicule, leaving him feeling isolated and unsure of his options.
While the NHS waiting list for circumcision procedures remains long, Ian initially enquired with Victoria House Clinic over a year ago. At the time, he hesitated due to cost and understandable anxiety around the procedure. But when the opportunity arose to be part of The Price of Perfection, Ian made the decision to go ahead and has since described the results as “life changing.”
The procedure, costing £1,800, was performed by Dr. Hosam Serag, a consultant urologist who works in the NHS and is also part of the surgical team at Victoria House Clinic. Dr. Hosam is highly experienced in male intimate surgery including circumcision, vasectomy, and dorsal slit procedures, and has previously appeared on Channel 5’s Surgeons: A Matter of Life or Death.
Speaking about Ian’s case, Dr. Hosam said: “This was more than just a routine circumcision. It was about restoring Ian’s comfort, dignity, and confidence. I’m proud that we could help him in a safe, supportive environment and that he’s now living without the physical and emotional pain he carried for years.”
