Rock the boat - seaside singalong and chippy tea at local care home

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Iverley View care home in Stourbridge had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on 'Fryday' 6 June, surely one of the best days of the year! Head chef Matthew Charter whipped up the most amazing mini Fish ‘n’ Chips for residents and visitors to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and Coke Floats for Dessert. The sun was hiding so we decided to stay in doors and decorate the dining room instead.

General Manager Amanda Morgan-Bennett, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Fish & Chip Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – fish & chips are such an iconic dish, everyone loves them and it’s even better when there is a good excuse to eat them!”

Phillipa resident at Iverley View Care Home commented: “We’ve all had such a lovely day. It just doesn’t get any better than fish and chips and a cold glass of beer, it’s always been my favourite – you can’t beat fish & chips as far as I’m concerned!”

Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

Activity Co-ordinator Yasmin Lakhan, added an extra splash of fun by planning a themed “Rock the Boat – Seaside Singalong” for the occasion. Local Legend Sue Holmes joined us on the Piano, leading a joyful singalong that had everyone clapping, smiling and singing their hearts out. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with music, laughter and community spirit.
