Taking steps for Parkinson's disease
Every step makes a difference and this is certainly true for an event taking place in just a few weeks.
On Saturday, 12 July, Careen Livingston is taking part in Walk for Parkinson's to raise funds for Parkinson's UK so that more people can access the specialist care and support which is needed.
Careen says: "Walking around Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield, I've opted to really challenge myself and walk the longer route of 5.8 miles all for a worthy cause.
"As someone who lives with the impact of this disease on a daily basis, I'm walking to raise funds and awareness that this disease is not limited to particular ages, gender or ethnicity. It can come to anyone."
So what is Parkinson's disease? It is a progressive neurological disorder that primarily affects movement, but it is so much more than a tremor. It's caused by the loss of dopamine-producing neurons in the brain which means that it has far reaching impact on physical and mental health.
Please support Careen as she joins with thousands across the country engaging in walks, treks and other amazing events all to raise funds for Parkinson's UK.
You can donate at events.parkinsons.org.uk/fundraisers/careenlivingston, whether big or small, it will all count and be gratefully received.
