The secondary school, part of Ormiston Academies Trust, has been praised by Inspectors in the recent report which found students “are highly positive about their learning experiences and the wider opportunities the school provides.”

Whilst the inspection is ungraded, Ofsted confirmed the school “has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection” – where it was judged to be ‘Good’ across all categories.

Inspectors praised the “purposeful atmosphere” at the school, recognising that “pupils’ attitudes to learning are positive” and said that “the provision for pupils’ personal development is a strength of this school.”

The report also highlighted the school’s strong Sixth Form provision where students “engage enthusiastically” with “challenging and independent learning”, and their success is “reflected by the wide range of high-quality destinations students move into.”

Key highlights from the report include:

  • “Pupils focus on their learning well.”

  • “Staff and pupils share the same high aspirations.”

  • “Teachers use assessments well, check what pupils know and ensure that pupils understand what they have to do.”

  • “Students make a significant contribution to supporting the school including through student leadership roles.”

  • “The school has raised expectations around learning and behaviour and has developed a highly-ambitious and well-sequenced curriculum for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).”

  • “The school has prioritised reading.”

  • “The school’s work to help pupils improve their attendance is having a positive impact.”

  • Students “receive extensive information on ‘next steps’ through high-quality careers guidance.” “This prepares them well for the next stages of their lives.”

  • “The school has implemented a comprehensive and well-thought-out professional development programme for staff, which they welcome.”

Dr Lisa Mason, Principal at Ormiston Forge Academy, said: “We are really proud to see Ofsted recognise our high expectations, ambitious curriculum, and excellent wider opportunities for all students in this excellent report. We are committed to creating the best learning experience for young people and we are really pleased to see Inspectors highlight just how much our students enjoy attending Forge.

“I’d like to thank our whole community, including our fantastic staff, students, parents and carers, whose support and hard work have made this report possible.”
