The charity is encouraging people to host tea parties, coffee mornings or bake sales whilst raising money to fund its free expert care.

Community and Corporate Fundraiser, Andrea Pugh, says this fundraiser is for ‘everyone’, from home bakers to schools and local businesses.

“We’re hoping the summer sunshine inspires tea parties, coffee mornings and plenty of cake. Care for a Cuppa is all about community, friendship and the joy of getting together, while helping us continue to provide free care for years to come,” she says.

Many hospice staff and volunteers are also getting involved. On Friday, 20 June, the Katharine House Hospice shop in Hednesford will hold a bake sale for customers and further shops are looking to host events.

“The people of Hednesford are wonderful supporters of the hospice,” said shop manager Sarah Simpson.

“I’m sure they’ll pop in to say hello, enjoy a slice of something sweet and maybe even pick up a smashing blouse while they’re at it!”

At the charity’s Therapy & Wellbeing Centre on Weston Road, Stafford, the care team will host a Care for a Cuppa 35 coffee morning for carers on Tuesday, 22 July.

“Socialising is important for both physical and mental wellbeing,” said Cathy Browning from the outpatients’ team.

“This is a lovely, informal way to bring people who are caring for others together, celebrate 35 years of care, and raise some extra funds so we can keep doing what we do best.”

Andrea added: “Whether it’s a catch-up with friends, a natter with neighbours, or a break with colleagues, people can make their events as small or as big as they like, so it is something everyone can get involved with.

“It could just be a collection tin by the kettle in workplaces, or a cream tea and picnic at a summer fete.”

The Care for a Cuppa 35 appeal is sponsored by Friel Homes, a local family-run construction company.

“We’re delighted to support the charity with this campaign,” company owner, Bill Friel said.

“Katharine House Hospice is a cornerstone of care in the area and continues to inspire us all. We’ll certainly be raising a mug of tea to help them support even more families who need them.”
