A better NHS starts here - Upgrading our local GP surgeries
Residents in Tipton, Wednesbury and Coseley know all too well the frustration of trying to book a GP appointment. The dreaded 8am scramble, long waits, limited slots, and the growing sense that help is always out of reach. It’s been clear for a long time that our NHS doesn’t just need a quick fix - it needs real investment, real reform, and real results for patients.
That’s why I’m proud to share that the Labour government is delivering exactly that. Thanks to £102 million - the biggest injection of funding into GP buildings in years – more than a thousand GP surgeries across the country will be refurbished and modernised. In our area, that means cash for two of our local surgeires - the Tame Bridge surgery in Friar Park and the Black Country Family Practice in Tipton.
This investment will mean more consultation rooms, better facilities, and the capacity to see more patients - helping bring in more than 8.3 million additional GP appointments every year across the country. Round here, that will make a huge difference for patients. Many GPs have told me they want to see more people and offer more appointments, but outdated buildings and cramped workspaces are holding them back.
We promised to fix the NHS, and we are. We’re already seeing the return of the family doctor, with 1,500 new GPs recruited. Now we are giving NHS staff the spaces and tools they need to deliver the high quality care patients deserve.
Residents in Tipton, Wednesbury and Coseley have waited long enough. That’s why this investment in modern, well equipped GP surgeries is so important. It will help cut waiting times, make sure patients get the right help quickly, and support our hardworking doctors and nurses to deliver the care they’re trained for.
This is just the beginning. Your Labour government is delivering on its promises, fixing the NHS and finally putting patients first.
