Rob Burrow runs the Leeds Marathon 11th May 2025
Local lad and member of the Black Country Group MND Association, George Davey, was one of several thousand runners who took part in this event, the first since Rob passed away last year. Among those also running were Rob's former Leeds Rhinos team mates, Jamie-Jones Buchanan and Kevin Sinfield as well as Rob's widow, Lindsay. Running 26.2 miles in hot conditions, with injury and illness to battle with, wasn’t an easy challenge… but compared to a warrior fighting MND this was a walk in the park.
I took part in the run to endure a personal challenge, whilst spreading awareness for MND, and support the wider community.
As with many runners on the day, the going got tough. Taking a moment to think of why we were taking part, it didn’t take much to continue on our way and get the miles ticked off.
It was great to see smiles on faces of those going through physical and mental pain, all doing so for a greater cause.
I look forward to lacing up the shoes again at Christmas, continuing to fundraise for those who need it.
NO FINISH LINE UNTIL THERE’S A CURE
Congratulations George on a wonderful achievement from all of us at Black Country MNDA.
