But motorists were surprised to see the horse galloping down this busy dual carriageway captured on a dash cam.

The man was spotted driving the horse and cart along the A454 Black Country Route between Bilston and Willenhall in the right hand lane.

It was captured on the dash cam by engineer Aaron Fellows as traffic passed on the horse and cart on the near side

Aaron, 43, said: "I couldn't see it at first and I wondered what the hold up was because the traffic was going much slower than usual.

"A few cars pulled over to the left and that's when the horse and cart came into sight. I had to do a double-take.

"It's not exactly a rural area. We're right in between Wolverhampton and Walsall, it's pretty built up. I've no idea why anyone would take a horse on that road.

"Everyone was gesticulating to the guy to move over to the left at least. Nobody wanted to go too fast or use their horns in case they frightened the horse either.

"It was a young lad in his 20s. My dashcam has a speedometer built in and it was galloping at about 25mph."

Aaron was driving to work when he spotted the bizarre road user near Anson Junction just after 10am on November 26.

There are no rules banning horse-drawn vehicles from dual carriageways.

Aaron added: "When I went past that was the last I saw of it. I drive a lot for work but that was one of the most unusual things I've ever seen."
