Cats need rehoming after owner dumped pregnant tabby in rain

A veterinary surgery in Walsall is looking to rehome two cats which were found abandoned within a week of each other.

A pregnant light-coloured tabby cat was brought in to Lockwood Animal Hospital in labour last week by a member of the public who discovered the animal by their dustbin in Willenhall.

The cat had already given birth to a kitten, which was also brought in to the Lower Lichfield Street surgery, and an emergency caesarean section was required to deliver the remaining three kittens who had sadly died.

The surviving male kitten has found a home and staff are desperately seeking a home for his mother. They are hoping to find a good home for an older, similar looking female tabby cat, thought to be eight or nine years old.

She was put inside a tub and dumped on the doorstep of the veterinary surgery during rain and thunderstorms on July 22.

Jade Bartle, trainee veterinary nurse, said: "She was found when a member of staff came to open up at 8am.

"She had basically been dumped in a tub outside our door during torrential rain and the tub was filling up with water.

"The younger tabby cat was brought in when she was in labour. She had already had one kitten. She must have been in labour for a while because she had given up. She was exhausted.

"She had to have an emergency caesarean section and the three kittens inside her had died.

"She is on antibiotics at the moment to make sure she doesn't get any infections. They are very affectionate and loving and need to find good homes."
