Thousands of fans paid tribute to an icon of the 60s and 70s at a special show.

The Volkswagen camper was the star turn at the County Showground in Stafford yesterday.

Organisers have hailed the first ever BusFreeze VW Campervan event a success and have revealed they have signed a three-year contract to ensure the show returns next autumn.

Among the attractions on offer at the weekend including an array of special VW Campers from classics through to the modern T5 vehicles fitted out with plasma screens.

The event also featured dozens of trade stands and demonstrations showing everything from how to revamp interiors through to how to completely strip and rebuild an air-cooled engine.

Visitors with an eye for a bargain were also able to look around a for-sale section. Bargains included an 03-plate VW camper for under £6,000 although it did have 148,000 miles on the clock.

Visitors were able to judge the entries in a special Show and Shine contest and a best in show award was presented by David Eccles, editor of VW Camper and Commercial.

A charity auction was also held in aid of Brad's Cancer Foundation.

Terry Ball, organiser of the BusFreeze show, said preparations were already under way for the next VW event at the County Showground in February which will see all makes and sizes of Volkswagen cars on display as part of the DubFreeze show.
