Furious newly-redundant Wrekin Construction workers travelled in convoy to the company's headquarters near Wolverhampton today in protest at more than 500 jobs being lost.

Former staff members in around 60 cars and white Wrekin vans and lorries met at at Junction 4 of the M54 before setting off to the firm's head office in Lamledge Lane, Shifnal, to complete statutory redundancy paperwork.

The vehicles made a slow journey through the company gates with horns blaring and lights flashing.

The men all expressed their anger at the sudden news and towards David Unwin, chairman of the firm's parent company Tamar Group Limited.

They displayed protest messages in their windows stating "Wrekin was robbed" and "Workers owed answers, Unwin."

A total of 530 jobs were lost when the building company went into administration last week. Bosses blamed their bank, The Royal Bank of Scotland, for "a total lack of support", despite the firm having secured £40 million in future contracts.
