The body of a man was today discovered in a Wolverhampton canal, just weeks after a headless torso was pulled from the same stretch of water.

Police were called to the Birmingham Main Line canal, off Cannock Road near the city centre, at 5am this morning.

The banks opposite the Waggon & Horses pub have been taped off while officers investigate.

The location is the same spot where the decapitated body of 31-year-old Darlaston man David Daly was found on March 30.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Catherine Preece said the canal had been closed off between two locks to stop boats passing.

She said: "Officers attended the scene at 5am and the body of man was confirmed in the water. Inquiries are still ongoing and the death is being treated as unexplained at this time."

She added the body was pulled from the water at 10.10am and the force's shallow-water invetigation team was still combing the area.

Church Road resident Marta Macieje, a 22-year-old psychology student at Wolverhampton University, said she was shocked.

She said: "It's awful to have the police here again. I can't believe that another man has been found."
