Innes Cameron’s stoppage-time goal sent National League side Barrow into the second round of the FA Cup as they snatched a 1-0 victory at Gillingham.

The striker’s poacher’s effort rewarded an excellent finish to the tie from the Bluebirds, who are unbeaten in 10 games, much to the fury of the home supporters.

League Two Gillingham had the game’s first real chance after 12 minutes when Robbie McKenzie backheeled the ball for Ronan Hale, with the hosts’ top scorer shooting just wide.

The clearest opening of the first half came when Lamin Sillah put McKenzie through one-on-one with Barrow goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom, who stood strong in making a good save.

In a scrappy second half, the Gills almost snatched the lead after 75 minutes when Garath McCleary’s cross was controlled by Hale before his shot bobbled against a post.

But Barrow ended the game strongly and almost took the lead one minute into added time when Cameron’s header from Corey Edwards’ cross was brilliantly saved by Gillingham goalkeeper Ollie Wright.

But the underdogs were not to be denied a minute later when Dan Mooney took aim from inside the area and his shot was diverted in from close range by Cameron.
