The visitors won 2-1.

Exeter manager Matt Taylor paid tribute to his side after they claimed an impressive 2-1 victory away to League One leaders Huddersfield.

The League Two Grecians ran out deserved winners thanks to goals from Jack Taylor and Charlie Cummins either side of Ibane Bowat’s equaliser.

Taylor said: “Let’s enjoy this moment. Let’s not look ahead. Let’s not look at the draw.

“There won’t be a better team than Huddersfield in the draw. I’d say Huddersfield away was the hardest tie of the round, and I’m so pleased that our fans travelled to see it.

“Huddersfield know they’ve been in a proper game, and they’ve been in a lot of good, quality games in League One this season.

“It’s a massive confidence booster for ourselves and the football club.

“It signifies another moment, another celebration together where that bond and that connection grows – I’d like to think our fans have started to see a team that they can believe in and get their teeth into.”

Huddersfield head coach Martin Drury said: “We got what we deserved because we didn’t perform anywhere near the level that we’ve shown throughout the season so far.

“I thought first half we lacked intensity. We didn’t attack quickly enough. We didn’t move the ball quickly enough. Just every single thing in the first half, we looked like we lacked urgency.

“It was almost like the game was going to come to us instead of going and taking the game and imposing ourselves like we have done for the last 13 or 14 games, so it was an uncharacteristic performance from us.

“Disappointing, frustrating, but we got what we deserved. I learned some things I didn’t want to learn, but at the same time everything happens for a reason, and it’ll help direct how we work moving forwards”
