Wolves season ticket sales hit 14,500 as fans snap up Early Bird offer
Wolves’ season tickets sales have soared to almost 50 per cent up on last year with more than 14,500 sold already, the club has announced.
Fans have snapped up discounted tickets for the 2017/18 season despite the team struggling in the bottom half of the Championship.
Thousands of fans have taken advantage of the annual ‘Early Bird’ offer, for which the deadline was 5pm today, meaning sales are the fourth highest since the Early Bird was first run 15 years ago.
That’s up from 10,308 who bought an Early Bird last season – and even higher than the 13,500 total sales figure for the current 2016/17 season, which ends next month.
The club launched a new refund offer in January, meaning that if 16,500 tickets are sold before the end of May all fans will receive a partial refund of between £59 and £119.
Sales will now continue at full price and club bosses will be hopeful of hitting their optimistic target.
New supporters account for 2,701 of the sale while the junior sales figure of 2,698 is a 48 per cent increase from this season.
Early Bird sales have hovered at between 10,000 and 12,000 since 2011, when the club sold 14,780 while still in the Premier League.
The impressive figures for next season come despite Wolves losing six games in a row in February.
Wolves are now set to at least have their highest number of season tickets since 2012/13, when 15,350 were sold in total with the club in the Championship.
It continues a great few weeks for the club, who have ended their losing run in style with four successive wins under Paul Lambert to move clear of the relegation zone ahead of Tuesday night's game against Nottingham Forest at Molineux.
Managing director Laurie Dalrymple said nothing would give him greater pleasure than shifting 16,500 tickets and giving loyal supporters a refund.
"I cannot stress enough how much everyone at the club appreciates the show of support from fans with the number of season tickets we have sold," he added.
"The level of backing already guaranteed for next season, along with the matchday improvements we have spoken about over the last week, will hopefully create a really vibrant and exciting atmosphere to get right behind Paul (Lambert) and the team.
"There still remains that additional target which we will hopefully reach over the next eight weeks which will allow supporters to receive a partial refund on the price of their season ticket.
"So while tickets will now revert to ‘summer’ prices, hopefully enough supporters will purchase to ensure they too receive some money back providing we hit that target by the end of May.
“I firmly believe it is achievable and, as I have already said previously, nothing would give me greater pleasure to press the button on those refunds."
Of the 16,500 refund target, 14,400 sales must be adult tickets. So far 11,804 adult tickets have been sold.
Almost 90 per cent of this season's season ticket holders have renewed so far.
