Wolves today rejected a second bid from Celtic for Leigh Griffiths.

It is understood Wolves have rejected an offer of around £500,000 rising to £750,000 for their 13-goal top scorer.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell and Wolves counterpart Jez Moxey were back and forth trying to thrash out a deal in the lead-up to last night's 3-0 win at Oldham where Wolves kept in touch at the top of League One thanks to goals from Kevin McDonald, Michael Jacobs and James Henry.

"There's been more talk and we'll see where that goes," said Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett, who had Griffiths as an unused substitute last night. "I was prepared to use him as well, even though there was further dialogue and perhaps another bid.

Jackett hinted he expects the deal to go through before Friday's 11pm deadline.

"Neil Lennon (Celtic's boss) obviously rates Leigh and has seen a lot of him from last season," he said. "Leigh has children up in Scotland and that's also a big factor."

Asked if Griffiths will be still at Wolves on Friday night, Jackett said: "I don't know – Celtic are very interested and their manager's comments seem to give him high praise."
