The 20-year-old striker will return to training with Kenny Jackett's side on Monday. McAlinden signed for the Shrews in October on a three-month loan and made nine appearances, including five starts, scoring three goals.

Wolves' head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell said: "Liam has done really well during his time at Shrewsbury and scored some important goals for them.

"It has been a great experience for him and will certainly have helped his development."

"We are now heading into a very busy period of fixtures and feel it is the right time to bring Liam back to Wolves to add to the cover and competition in the striking positions."

Wolves academy graduate McAlinden made his Wolves first-team debut at Molineux as a substitute against Burnley at the end of last season and scored his first goal in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at the start of the current campaign.
