Wolves have received an injury blow with news that Adlene Guedioura will be out for a minimum of six weeks.
The Algeria World Cup star is to undergo an operation on his troublesome right ankle after failing to shake off the problem he's had since before returning to pre-season training.
It's the second big blow to hit Guedioura, who only returned from a broken leg in March, and will sideline him for at least the first four Premier League games of the season, with the Queens Park Rangers home game on September 17 the earliest he could be expected to return to action.
Manager Mick McCarthy said: "I'm hoping Adlene will only be six weeks once he's had his operation. It's been a bad few months for Adlene, but you would have to ask him about that.
"We want him fit because he's a good player but injuries are just part of the game, unfortunately.
"I said to George Elokobi on Saturday, 'how do you feel going back to Ipswich?' because that was where he did his cruciate and medial ligaments, and he wasn't bothered.
"At least David Edwards is coming along nicely now."
The grim bulletin on Guedioura leaves Wolves a player down when McCarthy has already made signing a central midfielder a priority.
McCarthy also insisted defender Richard Stearman would be staying after speculation that Ipswich were interested in him.
The Wolves boss added: "I wouldn't be willing to let him go, so that knocks that one right out of the water.
"'Stears is part of my squad and he's staying."
