Keith Downing is odds on with some bookmakers to become the next Walsall manager after a flurry of bets.

Downing, who is the uncle of Saddlers defender Paul Downing, is currently the head coach of England's under-20s side.

Walsall fans woke up this morning braced to begin their second manager search of the season following the shock sacking of Sean O'Driscoll yesterday.

The former Doncaster Rovers and Nottingham Forest boss managed just 11 weeks in the Banks's hotseat after replacing Dean Smith.

Walsall are expected to announce at some point today that coaches Jon Whitney, John Ward and Neil Cutler will be placed in temporary charge.

But the flurry of bets placed on Downing suggests he may be the man who takes over.

Downing started his managerial career as manager of Cheltenham Town during the 2007-08 season, before joining the Baggies in 2009 where he enjoyed various roles including assistant head-coach to current England manager Roy Hodgson.
