Matt Richards has admitted he would ditch his record goal haul if it meant Walsall surviving.

The nine-goal top scorer is in the scoring form of his life after only previously netting four in a season following his opener at MK Dons on Friday.

But Richards would happily give up his strikes if the fourth-bottom Saddlers were guaranteed League One safety.

The midfielder said: "I'll take no goals for the season to survive now. I'll keep chipping in and helping the team out and as long as everyone does that and works hard I'm confident we can stay up.

"My record is very good, I hadn't scored in a while and the lads were saying to me I needed to get another goal. It fell nicely for me.

"It's pleasing to get the goals but the main thing is picking up points as a team."
