Mat Sadler expects Walsall to potentially make two new signings this week

Mat Sadler has revealed Walsall expect to make two new signings before they face Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Saturday.

Walsall have made just one signing as we near the midway point of the January transfer window following the arrival of Alex Pattison from Bradford City for an undisclosed fee last week.

Dan Cox, Jid Okeke and Ryan Finnigan were recalled from their loan spells at Bescot earlier in the window, although Sadler has confirmed that Myles Roberts, Rico Richards and top scorer Daniel Kanu will be staying until the end of the season.

As for incomings, Sadler is optimistic that there will be at least two new faces in the building before the weekend.

Two new signings expected before the weekend

"There will be a couple in the next couple of days. It should be [prior to the Tranmere game] barring anything that comes up before then," boss Sadler confirmed.

"So a couple before the weekend hopefully."

Sadler voiced his desire to bolster his attacking line in the wake of the Saddlers' 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Norwich City in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Pattison has replaced the outgoing Finnigan in the Walsall midfield, although the recalls of Cox and Okeke have left Sadler will more potential gaps to fill.

But when probed to provide any hints over the positions of the new signings in prospect, Sadler refused to give anything away.

"You'll find out," he replied.

His comments came in the wake of a 4-2 defeat against Northampton Town which saw Walsall bow out of the EFL Trophy in the round of 16 on Wednesday.

Albert Adomah saw his early opener cancelled out by Kamarai Swyer in the first half, before an own goal by Sam Hornby and a composed finish by Sam Hoskins made it 3-1 to Northampton just past the hour.

Daniel Kanu pulled one back, but Tom Eaves wrapped up the win, as Walsall were forced to finish the game with 10-men following Jake Hollman's hamstring injury.
