Staffordshire golfer Richard Mansell hopes hip surgery is the start of big things
Staffordshire golfer Richard Mansell is determined to come back "stronger" after undergoing hip surgery.
The 30-year-old has not teed up since the Dubai Invitational in early January, where he was forced to withdraw due to an ankle injury.
In social media posts, Mansell revealed he has also been battling hip problems "for a while" and had received two cortisone shots before playing in Abu Dhabi. While the injections initially helped, he said the relief eventually wore off.
Mansell, who attended Chase Terrace High School and has played his golf at Beau Desert Golf Club, said he was told he would "probably" require surgery within the next couple of years.

After injuring his ankle, he felt it was the "right time" to undergo the procedure, as he could feel the hip during rehab.
Mansell wrote: "Going to be waiting a little longer to finish 18 holes. Rough start to the 2026 golfing season, but lots to be grateful for.
"Bene struggling with my left hip for a while now and I had tried everything to avoid surgery but it really was the only option left.
"It has gone really well and I am counting down the days until I am back doing what I love and was born to do.
"Never been more determined to come out of this stronger, fitter and ready to compete.
"Thanks for all the support it's really appreciated."

Mansell had also planned to take April off from the game anyway, with his partner expecting a baby. He added online that he hopes this period out will also give his ankle a chance to "sort itself out".
Speaking on his recovery from the operation, he said: "It's been okay. A little sore and you definitely take things for granted when you can do what you want on your own terms."
Mansell joined the DP World Tour in 2021 and claimed his first title at the Porsche Singapore Classic last year.
The Burntwood golfer hopes the surgery will enable him to reach new heights.
"I want to be out on tour giving my best and hadn't been able to do that for some time," he said.
Mansell is currently 173rd in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Asked if he dreams of being part of the Ryder Cup squad in the future, he replied: "Main reason of me getting surgery was so I can give myself the best chance of getting to the next level.
"I am hopeful this is the start of me getting to where I want to be and on that team is definitely where I want to be."
