Walter Zenga philosophical after late Wolves defeat

Walter Zenga said defeat was just one of those things after Wolves lost to Will Grigg's late goal at Wigan.

A game low on quality was heading for a 1-1 draw until substitute Grigg beat Ikeme with just two minutes left.

Earlier, Prince Oniangue's second goal for the club had cancelled out ex-Wolves man Adam Le Fondre's early opener.

Zenga though refused to criticise his players despite them losing to the league's rock-bottom team.

"One ball in 45 minutes into the box and we lost the game," he said.

"I never had the impression we would lose. In the last minute one long ball in one position where it shouldn't be, and we lost.

"And now it's the second time, with Burton and Wigan (late goals conceded) - two teams below us and we lost points.

"This evening just happened because it happened - I cannot blame nobody.

"Our keeper kicked the ball, it arrived at their midfielder, he puts the ball as far as he can. What can I say? This is the reality."

The injured Jon Dadi Bodvarsson was a huge loss for Wolves, although Zenga said both he and the absent Joe Mason would be fit for Saturday's visit of Norwich, adding that it was too big a risk to play either at the DW Stadium.

Zenga added: "I didn't like the start of the game and they scored.

"Then we took the game in our hands and we play, we control, we create. We have to be more dangerous, more strong in the box and finish the situations better.

"I was impressed with Helder Costa. Then we start without Bodvarsson because he has one little problem from his last game, and Mason has a little problem, so there are some issues we have to take care of game by game.

"If we take a risk to play them this evening the risk was very high to lose them for a long time.

"With the games Tuesday then Saturday it's too difficult to take a risk in this way.

"We have to also think about the next game and the future."

Zenga sent on Paul Gladon, Ola John and George Saville in the second half but Wolves struggled to make any headway.

The Italian said of his changes: "The three players up top (Costa, Ivan Cavaleiro and Joao Teixeira) spend a lot of fatigue, sprinting a lot, they make a great job.

"I keep Helder on the pitch because I'm thinking he was the best, and I don't want to give the team the idea we have to defend something - I want to continue to attack.

"If I had another striker on the bench I would put him on too - this is our mentality.

"We must continue to play in this way. In the long term we're going to have the satisfaction about these things.

"Football is this - it doesn't matter how much possession you have, how many shots you have, how many chances you have...in the end you have to put the ball in the net.

"When you win you enjoy and you are satisfied. When you lose you have to explain why you lost.

"This game for us was very crucial and important and we got zero points.

"We have to restart and think now how to prepare for Saturday."
