Rob Edwards addresses Wolves boos after defeat to Spurs

The head coach was met with boos at full-time.

Rob Edwards says he understands boos from Wolves fans but hopes the club can mend the relationship with supporters.

The head coach was met with boos from the South Bank at full-time, after defeat to Spurs at Molineux, while supporters also held up a banner against the club’s Chinese owners Fosun.

Fans have begun to turn against the club’s current plight following three consecutive losses, with Edwards coming in for plenty of criticism.

When asked if he understands the fans’ frustration, Edwards said: “Of course, we're bottom of the league, we’ve just lost three in a row.

“It's not as easy as turning up and beating Tottenham because they've been having a bad time. They've got a lot of good players and their motivation level is incredibly high.

“It might sound weird to you all, I don't know if you fully appreciate what I'm saying, but it's been really challenging this week for us.

“We've been officially relegated, it's been really tough.

“For the players to give everything and match their intensity and match Tottenham's levels of work rate, the lads deserve a lot of credit for that.

“In the end we lacked a little bit of cutting edge, which we know where we're at at the moment, so that's the situation.”

The flag displayed in the South Bank was the Taiwan flag, with the Fosun logo on and the words ‘fail to prepare, prepare to fail’.

The Taiwan flag was chosen due to the political tension with China and it has been used earlier in the season by Wolves fans.

The relationship between Wolves supporters and Fosun has been strained for some time and when asked if that can be mended, Edwards added: “I hope so.

“I thought they were brilliant throughout the whole game, the supporters. I've not got a negative word to say about them at all.

“We've lost three in a row, we're bottom of the league, we've been relegated this week. They're not going to be happy.

“But what I need everyone to understand is that everyone's giving their all and it is going to take some time to turn this around.

“We're not in the middle of a transfer window now, we can't change loads.

“We're trying, we've improved from last week, we looked a lot more solid today, we didn't give a lot away at all.

“But we are where we are. Working really, really hard to try and put things right and in a few weeks' time we'll be able to action a lot of that stuff as well.”

Mending that relationship will also be dependent on Wolves getting it right this summer, with a huge transfer window ahead of them amid a squad refresh.

Several players are expected to depart and when asked about having a big summer, Edwards said: “We have and we all know that, that’s no problem.

“At the moment, times are tough. We've got to stand up, take it and hopefully in a year's time we're sitting in a much more positive place.”
