Dave Edwards: Kenny Jackett rocket lifted Wolves

Dave Edwards today revealed how a half-time roasting from Kenny Jackett snapped Wolves into gear at Shrewsbury after admitting they were "coasting".

Wolves were lacklustre in the first half before improving slightly after the break and finally squeezing out a barely-deserved 1-0 win courtesy of Bakary Sako's 84th-minute penalty.

Victory was a return to winning ways after Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Walsall but substitute Edwards admitted it took some harsh words from the head coach to turn things around amid a third successive below-par performance.

"It was a tight game and Shrewsbury were definitely the better team, particularly in the first half when the gaffer wasn't pleased with our performance," said the Wales international, who made his comeback from an ankle injury.

"He said a few things to put things right at half-time and we played a lot better in the second half.

"Our first-half performance wasn't good enough – we were just coasting a little bit in terms of possession.

"We were keeping the ball at the back but we weren't really threatening them.

"At times we just needed to put it in behind them and try to stretch the game because if you play in front of them playing 4-4-2, there's no room.

"When you've got Bjorn Sigurdarson and Leigh Griffiths in there and even Jake Cassidy, when he came on, they'll run in behind."

Five of Wolves' eight games this season have been settled by one goal.

Edwards believes that providing Wolves stay in games, their quality will shine through.

"We're going to have to up it, but if we can stay in games, you'd like to think we've got the quality to win," he added.

Edwards insisted the hotly-disputed penalty decision was right after Jon Taylor handballed Matt Doherty's bullet header from Sako's corner.

"It was a definite penalty and along with that it has to be a red card," he said.

"He (Taylor) was on the post and I think he came off it and raised his right arm from his body."
