Diogo Jota's widow, parents and former teammates attend Molineux match as Wolves pay tribute to former player
Saturday was a day of strong emotions for the family and former teammates of Diogo Jota as Molineux rose as one to remember their lost son, husband and friend.
Wolves' first Premier League game of the season yesterday (August 16) was preceded by an emotional and heartfelt series of tributes to the former Wolves forward, who died alongside his brother Andre Silva in a car crash in Spain in July.
A video message was played before a minute's applause was observed as a sold-out Molineux paid tribute to Jota, who played for Wolves between 2017 and 2020, winning the Championship and helping take the club to the FA Cup semi-finals and Europa League quarter-finals, as well as two successive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League.

His parents Isabel and Joaquim Silva were present at Molineux yesterday, as was his widow Rute Cardoso, who was joined at the game against Manchester City by former Wolves captain Ruben Neves.

An enormous Tifo was unveiled in front of the South Bank, bearing the line "We'll remember you when you walk in fields of gold", a nod to Jota's favourite song.

Wolves forward Sasa Kalajdzic also laid a Number 18 shirt on the pitch in Jota's honour.

Earlier this week a massive mural memorial depicting Jota during his time at Wolves was unveiled on the side of the Leaping Wolf pub near Molineux.
