Sasa Kalajdzic was taken out by Andre Onana in the dying minutes of the clash with Manchester United, but a VAR check did not overrule Simon Hooper's decision not to award a penalty.

Now, O'Neil has confirmed referee and current PGMOL Select Group 1 Manager Jon Moss has apologised and admitted it was the wrong decision.

When asked if he was told why it wasn't given, O'Neil said: "I was live, yes. They didn’t think it was a clear and obvious error. But having just spoken to Jonathan Moss, and fair play to him to come straight out, he just apologised and said it was a blatant penalty and should have been given.

"I sometimes feel bad because he has come out honestly. I spent the afternoon with him today, I gave up a lot of my day in preparation, trying to understand the new guidelines and trying not to get myself booked on the first game with the new guidelines, which I failed in!
