Sam Ricketts upset with Wolves over Ryan Giles
Shrewsbury Town boss Sam Ricketts was left bitterly disappointed at former club Wolves after Ryan Giles made a loan switch to Coventry on a frustrating transfer deadline day.
Giles spent the first half of the season at Shrews before being recalled by his parent club, but was allowed back out on loan – only to join another League One side, Coventry City.
“It was obviously disappointing, we worked incredibly hard with Ryan this season,” said Ricketts, whose side lost 1-0 to Rochdale on Saturday and face Liverpool in an FA Cup fourth-round replay tomorrow.
"You can see his game improving as the season went on, he was certainly a big asset for us.
“I’m disappointed with Wolves recalling him through injury and then with him coming back out, it’s bitterly disappointing he didn’t come here.
“It was a bit of everything (Giles not returning), it would’ve been great to have him back in a game like this where we could’ve brought him on with 20 or 30 minutes to go and he’d win us the game. He’d won us many games like that.”
