The 24-year-old scored 23 goals in a year at Molineux and is currently down the pecking order at Premier League side Bournemouth.

However they may face frustration with the two clubs currently at an impasse. Bournemouth want to either sell Afobe or loan him out with a view to a permanent deal.

It's understood that Wolves only want Afobe on a one-off loan deal and aren't prepared to commit to a long-term transfer.

This is the third consecutive transfer window in which Wolves have at least inquired about Afobe.

He moved to the Cherries for £10million in January 2016 but has struggled to claim a regular spot in their starting XI, with 32 of his 63 Premier League appearances coming from the bench. Afobe has netted 10 league goals for Eddie Howe's team.

Wolves' only signing so far this window was the £1.5m capture of Valencia forward Rafa Mir.

Ben Marshall could still leave before Wednesday night's 11pm deadline with several Championship rivals believed to interest, while the club would also hope to get Joe Mason back out on loan.
