The defensive midfielder has netted twice in his past five Wolves appearances, with a tap-in during the 4-0 win at Burton in September and then a header at the near post in Friday's 2-0 home victory over Fulham at Molineux.

Two in five contrasts with three goals in his previous 80 appearances for club and country.

So Saiss is hoping his prolific run, by his standards, is a sign of things to come.

"I'm very happy because I don't score a lot of goals in my career!" Saiss said.

"This season I have two so I hope I can score more goals.

"The most important thing is the team – we have a fantastic team when we play like this.

"We know about the quality of the team.

"If we continued like this I'm confident about the rest of the season."

Wolves top the Championship table with 35 points from 16 matches.

Saiss has been a regular in midfielder alongside Ruben Neves, making 16 appearances, meaning he's already creeping up on last season's total of 25 when he was in and out of the side under previous bosses Walter Zenga and Paul Lambert.

The 27-year-old is clearly enjoying is football – and felt Wolves were great value for their win over the Cottagers.

"I'm enjoying it," he said. "The coach wants the team to play – this is my football, I like to play football. I don't like the ball in the air.

"I'm very happy and enjoying this season and I hope we continue like this."

"It was a very good game against Fulham, I think.

"We controlled the game very good.

"We knew Fulham was a good team with the ball and I think we stayed in shape and used the space when we recovered the ball.

"We need to keep going. Staying at the top is hard because every team wants to beat us.

"We need to stay strong at home, I think it's important if you want to go to the Premier League.

"I'm very happy with the performance of the team."

Saiss is now away with Morocco as they attempt to quality for the World Cup in the coming days.

Morocco haven't conceded a goal in qualifying so far and a draw at Ivory Coast on Saturday will see them reach next summer's tournament in Russia.

While there's no break for Saiss, he feels the whole squad will benefit from mentally switching off from the relentless Championship schedule.

"You need (a break) because the league is so long," he added.

"I don't have a break because I have an important game for the World Cup but it's another style, Africa is different, but it's good for me to go to the national team because I go back to my country and see my brother.

"For the rest of the team the break is good. After (the break) we have to continue in this way."
