Morgan Gibbs-White: Wolves teenage star banishes nerves ahead of Brazil World Cup clash

Wolves youngster Morgan Gibbs-White insists nerves will play no part come kick-off when England take on Brazil for a place in the World Cup final on Wednesday.

"We might have some before the game, but when we're playing we just go away and concentrate on our game," the teenage winger said.

"I wouldn't say it's a generational thing. Us young boys, we play with freedom and we have no nerves and I think we showed that against USA."

Stafford-born Gibbs-White struck England's decisive third goal in Saturday's 4-1 FIFA Under-17 World Cup quarter-final win against the United States in Goa to book a last-four clash with Brazil, who progressed by beating Germany 2-1.

Spain will play Mali in the other semi-final in Mumbai on Wednesday following victories against Iran and Ghana respectively.

"We showed good character when we needed it (against USA)," said Gibbs-White, who made his first-team breakthrough for Wolves in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

"My goal came from a counter-attack and it was good play and a good finish when we needed it.

"The Japan game surprised us really, but we recovered well for this game and then we had our game plan and I thought we stuck to that."

England required penalties to edge past Japan in their round-of-16 encounter, winning the shootout 5-3 after a goalless draw, with Manchester City goalkeeper Curtis Anderson saving Hinata Kida's spot-kick before scoring one himself.

Cooper's side had finished top of Group F after three straight wins against Chile (4-0), Mexico (3-2) and Iraq (4-0).

The Young Lions will be on familiar territory against Brazil. The semi-final was initially scheduled to be played in Guwahati, but - after heavy downpours - was switched to Kolkata, where England have played all their previous matches.

The game kicks off at 12.30pm British time and is live on Eurosport.
