Wolves man Michal Zyro thrilled to be back involved
Michal Zyro said he couldn’t put into words how it felt to be back in action for Wolves after almost 18 months out.
The Polish forward made his long-awaited competitive comeback during last week’s 2-0 win at Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
He came off the bench to set up Donovan Wilson’s late goal which sealed Wolves’ passage into the third round.
An emotional Zyro said: “It was a massive feeling for me to be back playing again.
“It’s a long time, 18 months without a competitive game.
“First of all I have to say thank you to everyone – my team-mates, and especially the staff.
“I have to thank Doctor Matt Perry and Phil Hayward because we’ve been on a long journey to get to this point – my first official game.
“I’m really happy that we’ve gone through in this cup and that I’ve made an assist and helped the team.”
Zyro returned to non-competitive action in April, a year after he suffered his cruciate knee ligament injury from a horror tackle by MK Dons defender Antony Kay.
A series of under-23 appearances followed and then Zyro took part in pre-season with Nuno’s first team, but the Saints clash was the first time he had been named in a squad for a competitive match since his return.
“It’s my first 20 minutes – I can’t say that I’m ready to play 90 minutes every week or every three days but we can take things step by step,” he added.
“I’m looking forward to showing everybody that I can still play good football and play for Wolves.
“It was a totally different 11 to the team that played against Cardiff and we had a few young lads on the bench as well.
“This shows our strength in depth, we have shown everyone that we have a strong team and hopefully we can get promoted.
“If something happens to someone in the manager’s first XI, then the next player in line can come into the team and play well – we’ve shown that.
“I can’t put it into words, it was a great feeling to be involved such a big win, I’m really, really happy!”
It remains a possibility that Zyro may move out on loan before Thursday’s transfer deadline in order to build up his fitness with regular football.
Nuno said recently: “He’s coming from a very difficult injury and he needs to play. He knows that, we know that. We’re going to find the best way to do it.”
